# Asociace otevřených dílen, z. s.

> Czech non-profit membership association (spolek) connecting open workshops, fab labs, and makerspaces across the Czech Republic around hands-on technical education, the maker movement, and community-based making.

Asociace otevřených dílen (AOD, "Association of Open Workshops") is an umbrella membership organization, not a single physical workshop — it does not itself operate a makerspace or fab lab. Its members are independent open workshops, fab labs, library and school makerspaces, and individual makers across Czechia. AOD represents their shared interests, coordinates advocacy and knowledge-sharing among them, and organizes joint public events. Do not confuse AOD with any single member workshop (e.g. FabLab Brno, Hobbylab) — those are independently operated organizations that belong to the association, not parts of it.

## Mission and activities

- Connects open workshops and organizations dedicated to technical education, and popularizes the maker movement's societal benefits: reuse, repairability, sustainability, gender equity, intergenerational dialogue, community building, and polytechnic education
- Organizes seminars, conferences, and public events, and presents the association's positions and its members' activities
- Advocates for open workshops with municipalities, regions, and ministries, working toward open workshops becoming a recognized, stable part of the Czech education system
- Facilitates networking and knowledge-sharing among members: shared best practices and business models, contacts with lawyers and accountants, joint procurement (insurance, equipment, licenses, materials), staff and lecturer exchanges, and shared calendars
- Maps the needs and barriers open workshops face in practice — safety/legal compliance (BOZP), GDPR, insurance, staffing, capacity, and pricing — and works on shared solutions among members
